Sports and Social

Dorset Mental Health Forum’s Sports and Social Programme works with individuals and organisations to offer different activities across Dorset, developing connections and helping people to build a life within their local community.

Our regular activities are welcoming, supportive and open to all. For some it’s a chance to play a friendly game of football, for others a chance to catch up with familiar faces over a coffee. In all cases it’s a chance to connect, with other people and your local community.

Walk

Join our walking groups to meet like-minded people of all ages. We meet to have a stroll, enjoy the fresh air, take in the scenery and finish up with some refreshments and a chat at a local café.

Talk

Want to make new connections locally? Come and meet us for a coffee and a chat at local cafés across the county.

There’s no need to pre-book, you can drop in any time at these very relaxed social catch ups.

Play

Whether you fancy a game of seven-a-side, a gym workout, badminton, table tennis or a more leisurely game of pool or snooker, we run a range of sporting activities for adults of all ages and abilities.

Grow

Come to our gardening groups, they’re friendly and relaxed where people can come do a little or a lot. There are a range of things to get involved with from developing the plot, to woodwork, painting, digging and planting. Our goal is to grow plenty of vegetables and flowers, with all fresh produce shared amongst everyone involved.

Our Activities

Our Sports and Social Programme is delivered by people who have lived experience (Peers) who understand first hand how difficult it can be to reconnect and will help you think about what activities or opportunities might work for you.

We run some groups ourselves but also link with existing community activities to break down barriers and make them more accessible for everyone. We have a whole range of partnerships and community connections that are rooted in our local community.

Whether you want to meet someone 1-2-1, kick around a football with some likeminded people, hang out at the gym or get out in nature by joining one of our walking or gardening groups, we will help you find somewhere you fit in and feel comfortable, without judgement and often without talking about your mental health at all.

We tailor our programme of activities to our people and communities so if you don’t see something that interests you, please get in touch with one of our team. We are always happy to meet up over a coffee and talk through what you are interested in.
