Weymouth Oaktree Club
The Oak Tree Club offers social meetings on a Friday evening with a growing attendance of almost 20 people with refreshments included.
There are many benefits of being a club member, including making new friends, having a social outlet at the beginning of the weekend and also activities/events occuring normally once a week. Currently the regular activities include a trip to the cinema, bowling evenings, Sunday lunches and day trips to parks, museums, cities and towns.
The Oak Tree Club aims to reduce social isolation and exclusion often felt by those people suffering with mental illness living in the local community. The club is independent of all mental health services in the Weymouth and Portland area but is considered to be an equal partner in service provision.
Being a member of the club can offer a host of opportunities, from just attending to helping during social evenings and outings, to being a committee member and helping with the overall running of the club.
To join the club, just turn up on Friday evenings at the Crossroads Centre, off Chickerell Road, near the Admiral Hardy pub in Weymouth and ask for a committee member. There is a nominal £1 charge for attending.
